Gloria Akalitus is the by-the-book Administrator for All Saints Hospital. She keeps the hospital together and running smoothly. Sharp and attuned (or so she thinks), there's not a move in the repertoire that she hasn't seen. She is portrayed by Anna Deveare Smith.
Biography[]
Gloria is introduced in Season 1 as the "troll" who is looking for Nurse Jackie. Gloria frequently over laps with Jackie as she is aware Jackie bends the rules. Although Gloria can seem cold, rude and unsympathetic - she has her moments where we see she is still a great nurse.
After being stripped of her duties when All Saints was bought out, she has recently been reinstated. She's been at All Saints for over 30 years. During season 5 after being reinstated she begins to show signs of forgetfulness and confusion which leads her coworkers to believe she may be showing early signs of Alzheimer’s but alas Eddie & Jackie come to the conclusion that it’s a new medication she was on.
